Green Energy

(Methane Reclamation & Co-Generation Unit)                                                                    (Phase I of the Solar Array at the Landis Sewerage Authority)

The Landis Sewerage Authority utilizes several methods to reduce it's carbon footprint created by traditional fossil fuels. One method is by reclaiming methane gas from the anaerobic digester, conditioning it and re-using it to fuel a generator that creates electricity to power the local electrical grid. The reclaimed gas is also used to fuel building heaters in addition to heating the digester for biological treatment.

In 2010, the LSA became one of the largest hosts of a solar array at a treatment facility in the State of New Jersey. While this first phase of the project is now complete, plans are in the works for additional solar cells to be constructed in the future.

To complete the green energy cycle, the Authority also erected a single wind turbine unit to better capitalize on those breezy days and nights while feeding the electrical grid in addition to the aforementioned co-generation unit.

The LSA is proud by not only providing a safe and renewable source of our most vital resource: water, but also taking a proactive role in ensuring  a cleaner and healthier environment for generations to come.
